Hi, I’m Amanda. My husband Joe and I, along with our family of pets—three dogs, two cats and ducks—live in Wallkill in upstate NY. We grew up in the Hudson Valley and love living here, close to family and my roots, which include generations of flower growers and florists.
Inspiration for the name “The Green Windows” came from our home, where at every window we have plants of varied species, happily growing in light-filled spaces, providing us with year-round color and greenery.
Years before, I learned that plants can thrive almost anywhere when I lived in a basement with very little natural light. I was planting in fish tanks and found that with artificial light, I could easily grow certain types of aquatic flowers. From there, I collected over 300 exotic plants, and to this day I continue expanding my treasure trove and knowledge of all these beauties.
In the last five years, I’ve concentrated on learning about and growing cut flowers. I love it, despite the hard work and trial and error involved. My grandmother always tells me it’s in my genes since her grandfather was a local flower farmer too.
