Our Story
Meet the Grower
Hi there! I’m Amanda. My family and I call the Hudson Valley home—a place that we feel deeply rooted in and one that is woven into the story of our family. Generations before me were farmers, flower growers, and florists.
The Green Windows was inspired by my fascination with growing since a young age. As a teenager living in a basement bedroom with very little natural light, I began experimenting with fish tanks and artificial light. I discovered that I could grow an unexpected world of aquatic plants and flowers. That curiosity grew into a lifelong love of plants and flowers. There is something endlessly fascinating to me about creating the right conditions for a living thing to thrive.
In recent years, that fascination has led me to growing cut flowers. I’ve fallen in love with the rhythms of the seasons, the anticipation of spring’s first blooms and the quiet lessons that come from growing something from seed. Farming has taught me that beauty lives in both abundance and imperfection, and that every season brings something new to discover. The Green Windows is my way of growing that story forward—one seed, one season, and one flower at a time.
Meet the Designer
Lauren is a multidisciplinary designer who brings ideas to life through color, texture, and storytelling. Her floral design work draws inspiration from movement, seasonality, and organic beauty. At the heart of her practice is a desire to create work that feels alive — quietly striking, thoughtful and deeply meaningful.
Why Hydroponic?
We grow our winter flowers indoors using water instead of soil, a method known as hydroponics. The bulbs are chilled first to mimic winter’s natural rest, then placed in water-filled trays where they begin to take root. With careful attention to light and temperature, they grow and bloom even as the world outside lies dormant. Once ready, we harvest the tulips and make them available for purchase—a little reminder of spring and a bright spot to help chase away the winter blues.
About the Farm
Our 67-acre farm in Wallkill, New York, sits against the beautiful backdrop of the Shawangunk Mountains. Established in 1931, by Carl Lucht and his wife, it was once a dairy farm and bed and breakfast. The original barn and silo still stand today, connecting us to its history. Now, we’re bringing new life to the farm with seasonal cut flowers, fruit trees, and our cows, ducks, and geese. We’re excited to keep growing while preserving the charm that makes this place so special.
